The Bailiff will announce the Judge and the Judge will enter the courtroom and take the Bench . There are many people in the courtroom besides the Judge who are playing a role in your case, or in the case of others waiting to be heard. The Court Clerk sits at a desk in front of the Judge and will make a written record of your hearing. The Court Reporter also sits in front of the Judges Bench and has a machine on which she/he records everything said during the proceedings. The Bailiff sits off to the side and will often move around the courtroom, escorting prisoners, etc. Interpreters are often present to help non-English speaking or deaf individuals in an action to understand the proceedings and to communicate with the court. District Attorneys , Public Defenders and private attorneys are also present, representing their clients. |
